Montreal Roses FC tops Ottawa Rapid FC 2-1, in Northern Super League action
Montreal Roses FC emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Ottawa Rapid FC in a thrilling Northern Super League match at TD Place in Ottawa. Tanya Boychuk was the hero for Montreal, scoring the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. Boychuk capitalized on a perfect pass from Jodi Smith to beat Ottawa goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson and secure the win for her team.
The Roses had initially taken the lead in the 24th minute through a goal from Latifah Abdu, who expertly finished a pass from Charlotte Bilbault. However, Ottawa fought back and equalized in the 58th minute when Delaney Baie Pridham headed in a free kick from Choo Hyo-joo. Despite playing with a player less after Olivia Scott was sent off with a red card in the 27th minute, Ottawa put up a strong fight.
Montreal dominated possession with 57% and registered 14 total shots (two on target) compared to Ottawa’s six (three on target). The victory solidified Montreal’s position in the NSL standings with a record of 4-2-2.
In another NSL matchup, AFC Toronto secured a 2-1 win over Calgary Wild FC. Nikayla Small was the standout performer for Toronto, scoring two goals in quick succession in the first half. Danielle Steer pulled one back for Calgary with a goal in the 53rd minute, but Toronto held on for the win.
Toronto outshot Calgary 17-7 (7-2 on target) and took more corners (5-3). Despite having 60% possession, Calgary couldn’t find the equalizer. The victory propelled Toronto to a record of 5-3-1, while Calgary now stands at 3-3-2 in the NSL standings.
