Monty the Giant Schnauzer named Best in Show at the 149th Westminster Dog Show

The 149th edition of the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night was a night to remember for Monty the Giant Schnauzer. After two years of competing and winning the Working Group, Monty finally took home the coveted title of Best in Show. This was a historic win not only for Monty but also for the Working Group, as it had been over two decades since a dog from this group had claimed the top prize at Westminster.

The competition was fierce, with seven dogs representing their respective breeds in the final round. Judge Paula Nykiel, who has been judging the show for nine years, had the difficult task of choosing just one winner. After careful consideration, she awarded Best in Show to Monty, recognizing his exceptional breed type, temperament, and overall performance in the ring.

Coming in as a close runner-up was Bourbon the Whippet, who came out of retirement at nine years old to compete. Bourbon, a seasoned veteran of the show ring, captured the hearts of the audience and judges alike with his grace and elegance. He was awarded Reserve Best in Show, as well as winning the Hound Group.

In addition to Monty and Bourbon, there were other standout performers in their respective groups. Neal the Bichon Frisé won the Non-Sporting Group, Mercedes the German Shepherd won the Herding Group, Comet the Shih Tzu won the Toy Group, Freddie the English Springer Spaniel won the Sporting Group, and Archer the Skye Terrier won the Terrier Group.

Overall, the 149th Westminster Dog Show was a showcase of the best and brightest in the canine world. From Monty’s historic win to Bourbon’s impressive comeback, the night was filled with excitement and anticipation. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for their hard work and dedication to the sport of purebred dogs.
