Mother says she’s often mistaken for her daughter’s sister: ‘My mini-me’

Mother and daughter duo Kelly Cantu, 40, and Madison, 20, have been turning heads for years with their striking resemblance. Despite the 20-year age gap, the two are often mistaken for being sisters due to their uncanny similarities.

Kelly Cantu became a mother at the young age of 20 and was thrilled to have her very own “mini me.” As Madison grew up, the resemblance between the two became more apparent. By the time Madison was 13 and Kelly was only 33, people started asking if they were sisters.

“It would happen when I was picking her up from school. I was constantly being mistaken for her sister or another student,” Kelly shared. “We both found it very funny.”

Madison added, “My friends and classmates would always ask if she was my sister when they first met her. Even their parents would make the same mistake!”

The mother-daughter pair revealed that the confusion doesn’t just happen in person but also online. Whenever Kelly refers to Madison as her “Baby Girl,” people are shocked to learn that she is actually her mother.

Despite the embarrassment that comes with being mistaken for siblings, both Kelly and Madison take it in stride. Kelly admitted, “When Madison was younger, I would laugh, but I do get embarrassed at times, especially when people start asking how old I was when I had her.”

Madison, on the other hand, finds it amusing and hopes to inherit her mother’s good genetics. She shared, “When people find out she’s my parent and not my sister, they’re always shocked. I feel honored because she’s such a beautiful woman. Everyone says it, and I know it too. I hope I look just as good when I’m 40!”

The mother-daughter duo often dress in matching colors and even wear coordinating outfits. Kelly confessed, “I love matching. I’ve been trying to match or at least wear color-corresponding colors. I actually just ordered us matching Christmas jumpers and pajamas.”

Their family and friends also can’t help but notice how alike they look and act. Despite some finding it strange that they are so close, Kelly and Madison consider each other to be best friends.

“My mother always tells me how she can’t get over how similar we look and act. I would say my daughter and I are best friends and go everywhere together and act pretty similar,” Kelly shared.

Ultimately, the mother-daughter duo cherishes the fact that they are mistaken for sisters and enjoy the bond that they share. Their friendship and strong resemblance only add to the special connection they have as a family.
