Mounties announce one of the largest drug busts in Surrey RCMP history

Surrey RCMP recently announced the successful culmination of a year-long investigation into a criminal organization, resulting in one of the largest drug seizures in the agency’s history. The operation, led by investigators from the Surrey RCMP drug unit, spanned multiple locations in Surrey, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Vancouver, and Richmond, ultimately yielding significant quantities of illicit substances such as cocaine, MDMA, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Additionally, prescription and counterfeit prescription pills were also confiscated during the raids.

In addition to the drugs, law enforcement officials seized firearms, ammunition, body armor, vehicles, and a staggering $119,000 in cash. Three individuals, aged between 24 to 47, have been arrested in connection with the criminal group. However, authorities have identified multiple suspects throughout the course of the investigation, with plans to recommend charges against the three men to the Crown.

Staff Sgt. Glenn Leeson revealed that the investigation initially targeted street-level drug operations in 2023, eventually leading up the supply chain to the wholesalers and distributors. The seizure of 36 kilograms of fentanyl alone is estimated to prevent hundreds of thousands of potentially lethal doses from reaching the streets. Leeson emphasized the devastating impact of these substances, highlighting the immense profits associated with the illegal drug trade.

Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards echoed Leeson’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of disrupting drug trafficking to prevent substance abuse within the community. By focusing on prevention measures, Edwards believes it is possible to reduce the demand for illicit drugs and safeguard individuals from falling victim to addiction.

The extensive list of drugs and items seized during the operation includes 36 kilograms of fentanyl, 23 kilograms of MDMA, 20 kilograms of cocaine, 23 kilograms of methamphetamine, and a variety of counterfeit prescription pills. Additionally, firearms, luxury vehicles, and a substantial amount of cash were confiscated as part of the bust.
