Murder trial opens in death of Dartmouth battle rapper Pat Stay

A Trial Begins in Nova Scotia for the Accused Killer of Pat Stay
The Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Dartmouth opened a trial on Monday for the man charged with the murder of renowned battle rapper Pat Stay. Stay, aged 36, tragically lost his life after being stabbed outside a bar in downtown Halifax in September 2022. His untimely death sent shockwaves through the music community, leading to an outpouring of memorials and tributes in his honor.
Following the fatal incident, law enforcement swiftly apprehended Adam Drake, aged 35, who now faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with Stay’s death.
The initial day of the trial primarily focused on the selection of jurors. Given Stay’s high profile, potential jurors underwent a rigorous screening process known as challenge for cause. This involved probing into their awareness of the case and assessing their ability to impartially evaluate the evidence presented in court.
While a few prospective jurors admitted difficulty in setting aside preconceived notions, a jury consisting of seven men and seven women was eventually assembled. As customary, two jurors will be randomly selected to step down before deliberations, leaving a final panel of 12 individuals to determine Drake’s fate.
The trial is anticipated to continue until mid-June, with a plethora of testimonies and evidence expected to be presented throughout the proceedings.
