Musk threatens formation of ‘America Party’ over GOP’s ‘pork-filled’ spending bill

Elon Musk Continues Criticism of GOP Spending Bill, Threatens Formation of New Political Party
Elon Musk has not backed down from his criticism of the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill,” insisting that the United States is essentially governed by a one-party system. The billionaire entrepreneur has been vocal about what he sees as excessive spending in the bill, which he believes will add significantly to the national debt.
Musk, who previously served as a special government employee heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has described the bill as “pork-filled” and a “disgusting abomination.” He has expressed concern that the bill could undo much of the progress made during his time with DOGE.
In a series of posts on his platform X, Musk reiterated his belief that the U.S. is effectively a one-party country, with both major parties essentially acting as one. He warned that if the spending bill passes, he would form a new political party called the America Party the following day.
Musk’s criticism of the spending bill stems from his belief that it undermines the work he and his team at DOGE were doing to cut back on waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has refuted Musk’s claims, stating that the bill does not touch the discretionary side of the budget targeted by the DOGE initiative.
Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought has clarified that the GOP’s bill cannot legally include cuts to discretionary spending, as Musk had hoped. The bill only includes instructions for defense and border security spending, with final approval still requiring passage through the appropriations process.
Despite Musk’s ongoing feud with President Donald Trump and his supporters of the bill, Trump has described Musk as a “wonderful guy.” However, he did acknowledge that Musk had become upset over certain issues, particularly the electric vehicle mandate.
In response to Musk’s complaints, the White House pointed to Trump’s recent comments about Musk being a “wonderful guy.” Trump also noted that Musk had campaigned with him in the past, but had become upset over certain policy disagreements.
As the debate over the spending bill continues, Musk remains steadfast in his criticism and his threat to form a new political party. His outspokenness on the issue reflects his commitment to fiscal responsibility and a desire for real change in Washington. Only time will tell if his threats will come to fruition and if the America Party will indeed become a reality.
