Muslim journalist says Trump DOJ must probe ‘frightening network’ funding US antisemitism

Asra Nomani, a Muslim journalist, delivered a powerful warning to the Senate Judiciary Committee, highlighting the rise of antisemitism in the United States. She described antisemitism as an “industry” that is being perpetuated by various organizations, some of which have nonprofit status. Nomani emphasized the need for the Justice Department to investigate the “malign foreign influence” fueling this hate.

Nomani shared her personal connection to the issue, recounting her investigative work on the murder of Daniel Pearl, her colleague at The Wall Street Journal. Pearl, who was targeted by Islamic terrorists, was singled out not just for being Jewish, but for being a “son of Israel.” Nomani revealed that she has been investigating a network of individuals and organizations responsible for perpetuating this hate, numbering at 1,500 strong.

During her testimony, Nomani highlighted specific instances of antisemitic propaganda and actions, linking them to groups like American Muslims for Palestine and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. She stressed that the hate that led to Pearl’s death in Karachi is now present on American streets and college campuses, posing a significant threat to Jewish students.

Nomani called for a united front against this existential threat, urging for the investigation and registration of organizations working on behalf of malign foreign actors. She emphasized the importance of supporting Muslim reform movement leaders who stand in solidarity with the Jewish community.

Senator Ted Cruz later questioned Dr. Alyza Lewin about the funding behind these antisemitic attacks. Lewin confirmed the coordination and common funding behind such activities but noted a lack of investigations or indictments under the Biden Justice Department. Cruz also raised concerns about universities tolerating antisemitism and suggested swift action against such behavior.
