Ferry service on MV Confederation between PEI and Nova Scotia has been canceled for Monday morning.

A Northumberland Ferries official said the 7am and 10am sailings from Wood Islands, PEI, and the 8:30am and 11:45am sailings from Caribou, NS, have been canceled due to an “ongoing mechanical issue”.

The company said it will provide an update on Monday on the remaining sailings scheduled for the day.

MV Confederation was taken out of service over the weekend of 17 June due to a problem with the ship’s powertrain.

Parts were ordered from Germany and the ferry briefly returned to service on 1 July before breaking down again due to another problem. Parts were ordered again to correct the second problem.

MV Saaremaa 1, another ferry leased to replace the MV Holiday Island that was scrapped in 2022, is expected to arrive in Caribou late Sunday, the company said.

An email from the company said the ferry “will be moved to Wood Islands sometime Monday morning for further preparations”.
