N.S. closures, cancellations and where to find shelter during hurricane Lee

These are some of the closures and service changes happening as hurricane Lee blows through Nova Scotia this weekend. 

  • Northumberland Ferries Ltd. is cancelling all crossings for Saturday from Wood Islands, P.E.I. and Caribou, N.S.
  • The Public Gardens will be closed Saturday and likely Sunday as well.

  • All Halifax Transit bus, ferry and Access-A-Bus trips are expected to continue as scheduled. Updates will be provided should there be any service impacts or cancellations as the storm progresses into the weekend.

  • Friday night’s pre-season game between the Halifax Mooseheads and Cape Breton Eagles is cancelled to ensure the safety of fans, players and staff.

  • HRM solid waste has these closures/cancellations in effect for Saturday:

    The mobile Household Special Waste event planned for at the Eastern Shore Community Centre is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
    The permanent Household Special Waste Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Dr. will be closed.
    The Middle Musquodoboit Rural Refuse Depot located at 249 Sibley Rd., Middle Musquodoboit will be closed.
    The Sheet Harbour Rural Refuse Depot located at 21611 Nova Scotia Trunk 7, Sheet Harbour will be closed.

  • Emergency shelters will be open. A list from the Department of Community Services:

  • New Glasgow will close all trails, parks, and fields in anticipation of Lee. Stay tuned to local news and updates from the town regarding when these areas will reopen.

  • Parks Canada advises visitors of the temporary closures at all front and back-country campgrounds within/at Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Those areas will reopen on Monday.

  • Parks Canada advises visitors of the temporary closure of Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and Kejimkujik Seaside beginning Friday at noon until further notice

  • The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is closed Saturday. The Halifax Brewery Market and Alderney Landing market will be open.
