N.S. news: Thunderbirds player suspended

The Halifax Thunderbirds have made the decision to suspend player Tyson Bell following an alleged assault that took place in Colorado. The organization has not provided any specific details regarding the length of Bell’s suspension, but the announcement was made on X Thursday morning.

This action comes after the National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced on December 22 that they were looking into an “alleged incident between a player and spectator(s) following the Halifax at Colorado game on December 21.” A video that surfaced on social media appears to show a player punching one spectator and striking another with a lacrosse stick.

Although the NLL did not disclose the identity of the player involved, the Denver Police Department has identified Bell as the suspect. According to police reports, Bell and a victim were engaged in an argument at Ball Arena in Denver, which escalated to the victim being hit in the face, causing minor injury. Bell, a native of St. Catharines, Ont., is scheduled to appear in a Denver court on January 22.

The NLL has stated that they will provide an update once their investigation is complete. In the meantime, the Halifax Thunderbirds are gearing up for their next game against the Albany FireWolves in Halifax on Saturday night.
