N.S. organ transplant advocate remembered for her spirit and determination

Remembering Tahlia Ali: Nova Scotia Transplant Advocate
The community is mourning the loss of Tahlia Ali, a young transplant advocate from Nova Scotia who passed away on Saturday. Ali, 20, faced serious complications following a double lung transplant in Toronto two months ago and had been in intensive care over the summer.
Ali, originally from Cole Harbour, N.S., was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension at the age of seven. She underwent her first double lung transplant in Toronto at the age of 16. However, in 2024, she had to undergo a second lung transplant due to a decline in her health.
Throughout her journey, Ali was a vocal advocate for organ donation, emphasizing the importance of organ donors for people of all ages. She also advocated for increased financial support for families who have to relocate for medical care, such as lung transplant patients who must live near the transplant center while awaiting a match.
Despite her health challenges, Ali celebrated her graduation from Auburn Drive High School and found joy in being part of a cheer squad.

Halifax Cheer Elite, the cheerleading group Ali was a part of, expressed their heartfelt condolences on Facebook, remembering her spirit, determination, and bright presence.
“Tahlia’s courage and strength throughout her battle were an inspiration to us all,” the organization wrote.
In a message to family and friends, Ali’s grandmother emphasized the impact of organ donation, thanking the donors and their families for their selfless gift.
