Nancy Mace denies ‘burner’ account claims, calls accusers ‘bitter exes’

Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, is pushing back against allegations that she instructed her staff to create fake accounts to boost her online presence. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Mace dismissed the claims as coming from “bitter exes” and lacking any substantial evidence.

“When a story relies on ‘anonymous former staffers,’ it’s journalist-speak for ‘We didn’t have anything real, so we called the bitter exes,'” Mace said in response to a recent article published by Wired magazine. The article cited former aides and consultants, including a deposition from political consultant Wesley Donehue, alleging that Mace used burner accounts and automated bots to amplify her political messaging.

Mace, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, refuted these claims, stating, “Unlike some folks, I don’t need a burner phone to tell the truth. I say what I mean, I mean what I say, and I post it from my real account, with my name on it. Accountability starts there.”

Known for her outspokenness and commitment to transparency, Mace emphasized her dedication to honesty and integrity in her communication. “I’ll keep telling the uncomfortable truth. And if it makes you squirm, good. That means you’re finally paying attention,” she added.

As a staunch advocate for survivors of sexual assault and women’s rights, Mace has established herself as a vocal proponent of policies that protect women and parental rights. She has taken strong stances on issues such as preserving Title IX protections for biological women and expanding resources for survivors of violence.

In a recent incident where a transgender activist allegedly threatened to “assassinate” her, Mace stood firm against the threats, declaring, “You don’t have to agree with me, but threatening a mother and congresswoman with violence isn’t protest, it’s criminal.”

Mace’s background in technology, as a self-taught computer coder, sets her apart in Congress and informs her approach to crafting meaningful policy. “I actually understand the intricacies of technology, which already puts me ahead of most of Washington,” she remarked. “We’re writing policy focused on protecting your data, cracking down on cyber threats, and pushing back against Big Tech censorship.”

Her hands-on experience in tech enables her to identify software flaws and political spin, providing a unique perspective in policy-making. “It turns out writing code teaches you to spot bugs in software and in political BS,” Mace noted.

When asked how she upholds conservative principles of accountability and leadership in her office’s online work, Mace emphasized her commitment to transparency and authenticity. “I lead with facts, I speak for the people who sent me here, and I don’t hide behind consultants or filtered statements,” she stated. “Being accountable means saying the hard stuff, standing your ground, and not running from a fight, even if it makes the media clutch their pearls.”

Addressing the viral video circulating online showing what appeared to be a stack of burner phones, Mace took a lighthearted approach, joking, “About as many burner phones as Wired has credible sources for ‘burner-gate.’” She even playfully responded to social media claims with an AI-generated image of herself holding two Bernese Mountain dogs outside the Capitol, quipping, “It’s true. I have multiple berners!”

Amidst the controversy, Mace remains focused on her legislative duties and representing her district. As the first woman to graduate from South Carolina’s Citadel and the first woman elected to represent Charleston in Congress, Mace continues to champion her constituents and advocate for important causes.
