US Election 2024

Nancy Mace targeted by man arrested for threatening Trump: Source

A man from Butler, Pennsylvania, has been charged with making threats to murder President Donald Trump and also made threats against Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., a source familiar with the situation informed Fox News Digital exclusively.

According to the source, U.S. Capitol Police notified Mace’s office that Shawn Monper had made threats against her on social media back in January. Monper allegedly wrote on YouTube, “If I ever see her unprotected in public I would love to be the one to put a bullet in her skull. What a disgusting piece of trash.”

Mace seems to be the sole member of Congress targeted by Monper at this time. It is unclear why Mace, a vocal Trump supporter, was singled out for threats. The incident is part of a worrying trend of increasing threats against elected officials from both political parties.

During the 2024 election, Trump was the target of two failed assassination attempts. Monper directed threats towards Trump on YouTube, as stated in a release by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The FBI received information regarding threats posted on YouTube by a user named ‘Mr Satan’ between January 15 and April 5. Monper acquired a firearms permit shortly after Trump’s inauguration and posted under the same username in February, mentioning, “I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office,” as per the DOJ.

In March, Monper made posts indicating a possible mass shooting. Federal authorities also discovered posts targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and Elon Musk.

The U.S. Secret Service was also made aware of the threats against Mace. U.S. Capitol Police declined to comment on ongoing investigations when approached for verification. Mace’s office has not responded to requests for comment.
