Natural gas leak contained in Halifax’s north end
A natural gas leak was successfully contained at a construction site on Almon Street in Halifax’s north end on Friday. Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to a call just before 1 p.m. local time and quickly evacuated people from the area to ensure their safety.
The leak was promptly contained, and fire crews are currently working in collaboration with the gas company to assess the situation. As a precautionary measure, several streets were closed off by the fire crews, including Robie Street from North Street to Young Street and Almon Street from Windsor Street to Robie Street.
Halifax Regional Municipality issued an alert advising residents in the vicinity to close their windows and to stay away from the scene as a safety measure. The alert also reassured the public that the area will be deemed safe once the fire crews have completed their operations and departed from the site.
