NBA Hall of Famers Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter join Bills’ ownership group
Former NBA superstars Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter have made a groundbreaking move by joining the NFL as owners. The duo, along with former U.S. men’s national soccer team star Jozy Altidore, have become minority stakeholders in the Buffalo Bills, as announced by the team on Wednesday.
This historic development marks the first time in franchise history that the Pegula family, the principal owners of the Bills, have brought in secondary shareholders. In addition to McGrady, Carter, and Altidore, the private equity firm Arctos is also entering the fold as part of the new ownership group. Arctos has stakes in various sports leagues, including the NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS.
While the exact financial details of each new shareholder’s investment remain undisclosed, the Buffalo Bills are valued at $4.2 billion, according to Forbes. McGrady and Carter, who are cousins and former teammates during their NBA careers with the Toronto Raptors, now have ownership ties in the NFL.
McGrady, a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time scoring champion, enjoyed a successful 15-year career playing for teams like the Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Atlanta Hawks. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Carter, on the other hand, spent an impressive 22 seasons in the NBA, earning eight All-Star selections and two All-NBA nods. Most notably, he played the majority of his career with the Toronto Raptors, where his No. 15 jersey was recently retired. Carter also had stints with the New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns before retiring in 2020.
