NDP says the province is towing its heels on traffic improvements

The Need for Immediate Action on Halifax Traffic Congestion
The opposition party in the province is criticizing the government of Houston for not addressing the issue of traffic congestion in the regional municipality of Halifax in a timely manner.
Recently, the province announced that it has requested the services of search consultants to conduct a feasibility study on passenger and light rail options in the area.
NDP MLA Paul Wozney’s Concerns
NDP MLA Paul Wozney expressed his concerns in a statement, stating that while studying rail options is a step in the right direction, the focus should now shift towards implementing practical solutions.
“Halifax is plagued with some of the worst rush-hour congestion in Canada, and it is evident to anyone who travels within the municipality regularly. It is imperative that we find efficient and affordable ways to move people around, and this action should have been initiated without delay,” said Wozney.
He emphasized the importance of expanding active transportation options and investing in a rapid bus transit system to alleviate the congestion.
Immediate Action Needed
Wozney pointed out that commuters stuck in gridlock cannot afford to wait for the results of a feasibility study that may take years to materialize.
“Rather than just commissioning a study on passenger and light rail, the government should focus on implementing solutions that are feasible and can be put into action immediately, such as expanding active transportation options and improving bus transit,” he emphasized.
Companies have been given until September 16 to submit their responses to the province’s request.
