Netanyahu wants ‘relations’ with Syria but says Israel will attack it if becomes threat
In a recent development, the Israel Defense Forces have launched strikes against military targets in Syria following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The aim of these strikes is to prevent military capabilities from falling into the hands of extremist groups who may pose a threat to Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed a desire to establish relations with the new regime in Syria, but has also issued a stern warning that Israel will not hesitate to retaliate if Syria allows Iran to establish a presence in the country or facilitates the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah.
The Israeli military conducted extensive airstrikes on Syrian military targets, including naval sites and weapons depots in various locations across the country. The strikes targeted anti-aircraft batteries, airfields, and weapons storage facilities housing advanced weaponry such as ballistic missiles, UAVs, fighter jets, and tanks. The Israeli Defense Forces reported that manned aircraft flew hundreds of hours over Syrian airspace to carry out the strikes.
Netanyahu compared the Israeli airstrikes to Britain’s actions during World War II when it bombed a French fleet to prevent it from falling into Nazi hands. He hailed the fall of Bashar al-Assad as a historic event and credited Israeli attacks on Hezbollah and Iran for contributing to Assad’s downfall.
The United Nations has condemned Israel’s military actions in Syria, including the incursion beyond the Golan Heights into a demilitarized buffer zone. U.N. Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen called for an end to Israeli attacks and urged all parties to avoid further conflicts in the region.
Despite international criticism, Israel has reiterated its commitment to ensuring its security and protecting its interests. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel has no intention of interfering in Syria’s internal affairs but will take necessary measures to safeguard its borders and prevent any threats to its security.
As the situation in Syria continues to evolve, it is crucial for all parties involved to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution. The international community must come together to support efforts to stabilize the region and prevent further escalation of violence.
