Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen, and Minister of Official Languages and Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Gina Petitpas Taylor, and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett are expected to be dropped from the cabinet.

Marco Mendicino is also one of the ministers expected to be shuffled in the new cabinet change.

Apart from this, there could be change in role among some ministers already in the cabinet.

As per sources, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland will maintain her position in the cabinet.

Canada’s major news provider CBC reports, “Multiple ministers are being dropped from federal cabinet in a shuffle expected to take place Wednesday, sources tell CBC News.”

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc and Minister of Official Languages and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Ginette Petitpas Taylor are among those summoned to return to Ottawa.

Why new Cabinet Shuffle in Canada?

Ministers are anticipated to have informed the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of their intentions to run again if an election is called.

Those who have indicated they will not re-offer are likely to be transferred out, creating opportunities for Trudeau to promote high-performing members of his backbenches to cabinet before the next election, currently scheduled for 2025.

The reshuffle is anticipated to be the most significant change to Trudeau’s cabinet since October 2021, one month into the Liberals’ second minority mandate.

It comes advance of a cabinet retreat scheduled for next month in Prince Edward Island, giving new ministers a few weeks to become acquainted with their portfolios.

This reorganization will prepare the prime minister’s staff for the next federal election.

CTV news quote that this is to reset Liberals’ messaging on a few hot files following intensive political scrutiny of the government’s management of housing affordability, public safety, and online platform policies during the autumn and spring sittings.
