US Election 2024

New Jersey Rep. Gottheimer says ‘we need to stand up to Trump’ when announcing run for governor

Democrat Josh Gottheimer, a New Jersey representative, recently announced his bid for governor in 2025. He expressed his concerns about the outcome of the election and emphasized the need to “stand up to” President-elect Donald Trump. Gottheimer referred to Trump’s victory as a “terrible loss for America” during a speech at a diner in South Hackensack.

He criticized Trump’s positions on abortion, the environment, and gun safety, labeling them as major issues that need to be addressed. Gottheimer stressed the importance of standing up to Trump and fighting against his extremist attacks on women’s healthcare. He specifically mentioned the need to reinstate Roe v. Wade.

In addition to challenging Trump, Gottheimer outlined his main priority as governor – lowering costs for New Jersey residents. He highlighted the state’s high cost of living and pledged to focus on reducing taxes and overall expenses for its residents.

Gottheimer enters a competitive Democratic field for the gubernatorial race, alongside candidates such as former state Sen. Stephen Sweeney, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. On the Republican side, contenders include former gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli, state Sen. Jon Bramnick, and talk radio host Bill Spadea.

The upcoming gubernatorial race in New Jersey promises to be a heated competition, with candidates from both parties vying for the opportunity to lead the state. Gottheimer’s entry into the race adds another dynamic to the mix, as he aims to challenge Trump’s policies and prioritize lowering costs for residents.

As the campaign unfolds, voters will have the opportunity to assess each candidate’s platform and determine who they believe is best suited to lead New Jersey. Gottheimer’s focus on standing up to Trump and addressing the state’s financial challenges sets the stage for a compelling race ahead.
