New Orleans attack: Search continues for potential Bourbon Street accomplices as state AG vows death penalty

Authorities are still on the hunt for potential accomplices to Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man responsible for driving a truck into a crowd in New Orleans before being killed in a shootout with police. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has revealed that there is evidence indicating Jabbar had help in planning the attack, although specific details have not been disclosed. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals and left dozens injured.

Murrill took to Fox News to express her determination to seek justice, stating, “In Louisiana, we have the death penalty, and we will carry it out!” The investigation into Jabbar’s background uncovered videos on social media where he professed allegiance to the Islamic State. The FBI’s probe has expanded across multiple states, with the number of potential accomplices still undetermined.

The FBI has disclosed that they do not believe Jabbar acted alone. Inside his truck, authorities found firearms and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device, along with other suspicious items in the French Quarter. Jabbar, a Texas-born U.S. native, had a background in the military, serving as a Human Resource Specialist and Information Technology Specialist from 2007 to 2015.

Following his active duty, Jabbar continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 2020. During his military career, he was deployed to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010. Authorities have conducted searches at locations connected to Jabbar in New Orleans and his main residence in Houston, Texas.

The terrorist attack prompted the postponement of the Sugar Bowl, which has been rescheduled for the following day. President-elect Trump has called for the CIA to join the investigation, condemning Jabbar as “violent scum” and criticizing the current administration as “incompetent and corrupt.”

The situation remains fluid as authorities continue their search for accomplices and gather evidence related to the attack. The nation is on edge following these tragic events, with calls for increased vigilance and security measures. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
