Newcomers Jebbison, David make Canada’s CONCACAF Nations League roster

Forwards Daniel Jebbison and Promise (Tobi) David have been named to Canada’s 23-man roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League Finals, marking a significant addition to coach Jesse Marsch’s squad. Both players have decided to commit to Canada, with Jebbison currently playing for Bournemouth in the English Premier League and David representing Belgium’s Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Jebbison, who previously played for England at the under-18 and U-20 levels, has seen success with Sheffield United and Bournemouth, scoring key goals for both clubs. On the other hand, David, who hails from Nigeria and played for their under-23 team, brings a wealth of international experience to the Canadian team.

The Canadian men, ranked 31st in the world, are set to face off against No. 19 Mexico in the Nations League semifinal, while the U.S., ranked 16th, will take on Panama. The matches are scheduled for March 20 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., with the final and third-place game to follow on March 23.

Coach Marsch expressed his confidence in the squad, highlighting the improved depth and tough roster decisions that had to be made. The team’s performance in the previous editions of the Nations League has been promising, finishing in the top five in the last three tournaments.

The tournament offers a substantial prize pool, with $2 million for the winner, $1 million for the runner-up, $600,000 for third place, and $200,000 for fourth place. Canada will be counting on key players like Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, and Cyle Larin, along with the new recruits Jebbison and David, to make a strong push for the title.
