During a recent event at POLITICO’s California Summit in Sacramento, Governor Gavin Newsom expressed strong criticism towards President Donald Trump, highlighting what he referred to as “authoritarian tendencies” within the administration.
Newsom, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, pointed to the events of January 6, 2021, when supporters of Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol, as evidence of the president’s disregard for free and fair elections.
“You think he’s joking about 2028?” Newsom questioned, raising concerns about Trump’s intentions beyond his current term. “Wake up. You will lose your country,” he cautioned.
Responding to Newsom’s remarks, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson defended Trump’s record, stating, “President Trump is delivering win after win for the American people, while Newsom continues his media tour.”

While speculation about Trump seeking a third term persists, Newsom dismissed the idea, citing the sale of “Trump 2028” merchandise as a mere marketing ploy.
Newsom’s strong stance against the Trump administration follows a series of clashes between the two political figures, including disagreements over the deployment of National Guard troops and redistricting efforts.

Newsom emphasized the importance of upholding democracy and expressed concern over what he perceived as authoritarian actions taken by the president. He called for vigilance among Americans in safeguarding the principles of democracy.
As the political landscape intensifies, Newsom remains steadfast in his opposition to Trump’s policies and initiatives, advocating for a more balanced representation in Congress.

With tensions running high, Newsom’s call for action resonates with many who share his concerns about the direction of the country. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the clash between Newsom and Trump underscores the deep divisions within American society.
