NFL news: Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins agree to contract extensions

The Cincinnati Bengals have made a significant move by securing contract extensions for their star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. This move ensures that Joe Burrow, the team’s quarterback, will have his top two targets for the next four years.

Reports on Monday confirmed that both Chase and Higgins signed lucrative deals, with Chase becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The contract extensions bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding the two receivers, whom Burrow has been vocal in advocating for.

Chase’s four-year extension is reportedly worth $161 million, with $112 million guaranteed. This deal surpasses Myles Garrett’s previous record of $40 million a year. The Bengals’ director of player personnel, Duke Tobin, had expressed the team’s goal to set a new standard for wide receivers in the NFL with Chase’s contract.

Despite the Bengals missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season, Chase had an outstanding performance on the field. He led the league in receptions, yards receiving, and touchdown catches in a single season, a rare feat for a receiver in the Super Bowl era.

Higgins, drafted in the second round alongside Burrow, also secured a four-year extension worth $115 million. This deal makes him the highest-paid No. 2 receiver in the league. Higgins has proven himself as a reliable target for Burrow, with 73 receptions, 911 yards, and 10 touchdown catches in the past season.

The signings of Chase and Higgins solidify the Bengals’ receiving corps and provide Burrow with elite weapons for the foreseeable future. The team can now focus on building the rest of the roster with these key pieces in place. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
