No decision on Friday ferry service, after now-fixed issue and bad weather cancel N.S.-P.E.I. sailings
An Update on MV Confederation’s Engine Problem and Weather Disruptions
After experiencing an engine problem, MV Confederation, the ferry that operates between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, was temporarily out of service for repairs. The ship had been docked since mid-September but briefly returned to the water on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, the engine issue resurfaced after completing only one round trip between Wood Islands, P.E.I., and Caribou, Nova Scotia. As a result, Northumberland Ferries had to cancel the remaining sailings for the day.
Thankfully, the engine problem has been resolved as of last night. However, inclement weather conditions, including strong winds and snow, have forced the ferry to remain docked all day Thursday. Northumberland Ferries issued a statement on their website, indicating that there may be disruptions in service on Friday, December 6, due to the forecasted weather conditions.
Environment Canada has issued a gale warning for the eastern half of the Northumberland Strait, with wind speeds reaching up to 35 knots early Friday morning and diminishing to 25 knots in the afternoon.
The Northumberland Ferries Ltd. season is scheduled to run until December 20, with services expected to resume in the spring once the ice clears from the Northumberland Strait.
Passengers are advised to stay updated on the ferry company’s website for further updates on the status of sailings. Despite the recent challenges, Northumberland Ferries is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew members.
