The Football Federation of Norway has announced that it will donate the profits from an upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Israel to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
Norway is set to play against Israel in Oslo on October 11, and the Norwegian football federation is taking a stand against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by pledging to donate the proceeds from the match.
Lise Klaveness, president of the Norwegian football federation, stated, “We cannot remain indifferent to the suffering and attacks on civilians in Gaza. We want to support humanitarian organizations that provide lifesaving aid on the ground.”
The Israeli Football Federation responded by urging their Norwegian counterparts to also address the attacks and hostages by Hamas on October 7, 2023. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that the donated funds do not end up in the hands of terrorist organizations.
Security measures are being put in place for the October 11 game, with a limited capacity of 3,000 tickets at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. Norway currently leads the qualifying group for Israel in the World Cup qualifiers.
Due to safety concerns, Israel is unable to host international games and played their “home” match against Norway in Hungary, which Norway won 4-2 in March.
