Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservatives Lead in Fundraising, NDP Tops in Individual Donors
According to Elections Nova Scotia, the Progressive Conservatives in Nova Scotia outpaced their political rivals in fundraising last year. The Tories raised an impressive $1,157,677, while the NDP collected $839,465 and the Liberal Party received $633,163.
The annual report provides details on the names and communities of individuals who contributed $200 or more to each political party, riding association, and registered candidate. Donors are limited to a maximum contribution of $5,000 to a single party or its affiliated entities, but they can donate to multiple parties.
On average, the Tories received the highest donation amount per donor, averaging around $1,105 per contributor. The Liberals followed with an average donation of $826, and the NDP with $689 per donor.
Despite the higher average donation amount, the New Democrats had the largest number of individual donors who contributed $200 or more. With 1,218 donors in this category, the NDP surpassed the Progressive Conservatives with 1,048 donors and the Liberals with 766 donors.
