Nova Scotia to add 15 new provincial parks, expand two others

HALIFAX, N.S. — Nova Scotians will soon be able to enjoy 15 new provincial parks and more space at two current parks.

The new additions, covering roughly 1,150 hectares of Crown land, include natural landscapes and cultural heritage and are home to several plants and animals.

They will also offer outdoor recreation and education opportunities.

To protect the environment and cultural heritage, most of the parks will be managed as natural environment parks.

The new designations place the provinces more than halfway towards its goal of 205 provincial parks.

Parks being expanded are: Halifax’s Lawrence Park and Five Islands in Colchester County.

New parks include:

  • Black Duck Cove, Guysborough County
  • New Harbour, Guysborough County
  • Tor Bay, Guysborough County
  • Ainslie Point, Inverness County
  • Orangedale, Inverness County
  • Cape George, Antigonish County
  • Pomquet, Antigonish County
  • Cookville, Lunenburg County
  • False Bay, Richmond County
  • Gaspereaux River, Cape Breton County
  • Herring Cove, Halifax County
  • MacKenzie Beach, Pictou County
  • Merigomish, Pictou County
  • North Mountain, Annapolis County
  • Uisge Ban Falls, Victoria County
