NY AG Letitia James launches fundraiser after mortgage fraud allegation

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing scrutiny and allegations of fraud just days after the Trump administration accused her of falsely claiming her principal residence in Virginia. Despite the controversy, James is actively seeking support and funds for her 2026 re-election bid.

A high-dollar fundraiser is set to take place on Tuesday, with contributions starting at $500 and reaching up to $18,000, the maximum allowed by New York law. Hosted at the home of left-wing activists Rod Grozier and Rob Smith, the event is aimed at showing support for James in the midst of the allegations against her.

The invite for the fundraiser features a photo of James framed by a circular gay pride flag, emphasizing her commitment to fighting for the rights of all individuals. The event page on ActBlue, a lefty fundraising website, encourages supporters to show their backing for James and acknowledge her ongoing efforts.

However, James has come under fire for allegedly misrepresenting her residency in Virginia and the number of units in a building she owns in Brooklyn. These allegations have led to a federal criminal referral and potential charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and false statements to a financial institution.

Despite the accusations, James’ camp has defended her ownership of the properties and criticized the Trump administration for what they see as the weaponization of the federal government. While her office has not specifically denied the allegations, they have not provided a comment on the fundraiser.

As the controversy surrounding Letitia James continues to unfold, her bid for re-election and the support she receives will be closely watched. The fundraiser serves as a test of her backing and the extent to which her supporters are willing to stand by her side amidst the allegations.
