NYC Mayor Adams warns against anti-ICE riots as LA faces continued unrest

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is taking a firm stance against any potential anti-ICE riots in the city, as tensions rise across the nation. In a news conference on Monday, Adams made it clear that while New Yorkers have the right to peacefully protest, violence and lawlessness will not be tolerated.

Recent protests in Los Angeles against federal immigration authorities have sparked concerns of similar demonstrations in New York City. However, Adams emphasized that New York will not allow the escalation of protests seen in California to happen in the city.

New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch echoed Adams’ sentiments, stating that the NYPD is prepared to respond to any civil unrest that may occur. She emphasized that while the city does not engage in civil immigration enforcement, they have zero tolerance for violence, property damage, and blockade-style demonstrations.

Adams has shown a willingness to cooperate with the Trump administration on federal immigration law, including supporting a request for an ICE office on Riker’s Island. This move has faced opposition from the city council, but Adams remains committed to enhancing ICE enforcement efforts.

In a joint interview with border czar Tom Homan, Adams highlighted the importance of having an ICE presence on Riker’s Island for gathering intelligence on criminal activities. He also criticized the far left for spreading misinformation about ICE’s operations in schools and churches, calling for an end to the hysteria.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles continues to grapple with riots, prompting President Trump to deploy troops to the area. Over 100 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest, which has led to property damage and looting.

Trump has criticized Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom for their handling of the situation, blaming them for the chaos in the city. Newsom, on the other hand, has accused the president of instigating the violence with his rhetoric.

As ICE aims to increase daily arrests of illegal immigrants, tensions are running high across the country. Adams and law enforcement officials in New York are prepared to maintain public order and ensure the safety of residents amidst the ongoing immigration debate.
