Former President Barack Obama has raised concerns about what he perceives as “dangerous trends” emerging from the Trump administration. According to Obama, these policies “put the liberties of all Americans at risk.”
In a recent interview with Ezra Klein of The New York Times on “The Ezra Klein Show,” Obama highlighted President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy National Guard troops in cities like New York and Chicago, the former president’s hometown.
“This interview, also available as a podcast, sheds light on the concerning trends we’ve witnessed in recent months regarding the federalization and militarization of state and local police forces,” Obama stated.

“The erosion of fundamental principles like due process and the increased use of our military on domestic soil jeopardize the liberties of all Americans, and should be a concern for both Democrats and Republicans,” he added.
Trump’s proposal to implement a federal crackdown to address crime in cities like Chicago has sparked controversy.
“Governor Pritzker had 6 murders in Chicago this weekend,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referring to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker. “Twenty people were shot. But he doesn’t want to ask me for help. Can this be possible? The people are desperate for me to STOP THE CRIME, something the Democrats aren’t capable of doing. STAY TUNED!!! President DJT.”

The suggestion to deploy the National Guard in blue cities to address crime has sparked outrage among Democrats.
Earlier this week, Trump criticized Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson over the city’s crime rate. The governor has vowed to resist any federal intervention.
“I say, ‘Mr. President, do not come to Chicago. You are neither wanted here nor needed here,'” Pritzker told reporters.
