Obama’s former White House doctor breaks silence on Biden physician failures

Former President Barack Obama’s White House physician, Jeffrey Kuhlman, recently expressed his belief that former President Joe Biden’s doctor should have conducted a cognitive test to assess his fitness to serve in office. Kuhlman, who had appointed Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, in 2009, stated in an interview with The Washington Post that a cognitive test should have been administered to Biden, given his age, during his last year as president.
In a report released in 2024, O’Connor declared that the then 81-year-old president was “fit for duty,” without mentioning any neurocognitive testing. Kuhlman emphasized the importance of evaluating not just physical health but also mental and emotional fitness for the demanding job of the presidency. He questioned whether O’Connor may have missed crucial issues related to Biden’s cognitive abilities.
While Kuhlman acknowledged O’Connor as a competent doctor who provided trusted medical advice, he suggested that further investigation may uncover any potential concerns that were not addressed. President Donald Trump has called for an investigation into Biden’s aides allegedly using an autopen to cover up his cognitive decline and to assert executive authority.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer issued a subpoena for O’Connor to appear for a deposition as part of a probe into Biden’s mental decline. The committee is investigating the alleged cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline and unauthorized issuance of executive actions. Questions have been raised about the financial relationship between O’Connor and the Biden family and whether it influenced his assessment of Biden’s fitness for office.
Concerns about Biden’s cognitive state have been a topic of discussion not only among Republicans but also within the Democratic Party. A recent book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson highlighted debates within the White House over Biden’s mental state and age, suggesting that others were effectively running the country while Biden played a diminished role.
As the investigation continues, Comer has requested interviews with several key figures, including Biden’s senior advisers and former White House staff members. The committee aims to thoroughly examine the allegations of a potential cover-up of Biden’s cognitive decline and ensure transparency in assessing the president’s ability to fulfill his duties.
The ongoing scrutiny surrounding Biden’s cognitive state underscores the importance of evaluating a president’s fitness for office comprehensively. As the investigation progresses, the American public will be looking for answers regarding Biden’s cognitive abilities and the transparency of his medical assessments.
