Obamas make first public appearance in six months with ‘concerning’ body language

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama made a rare public appearance together, breaking their six-month absence from the public eye. The couple was spotted outside the Lowell Hotel & Restaurant in Lenox Hill, Manhattan, marking their first sighting since December 2024.

Despite rumors swirling about a possible separation, Michelle Obama has denied any truth to the speculation, maintaining that their relationship is intact. The photos captured by BackGrid show the Obamas stepping out into a car, displaying noticeably different expressions and body language, as noted by body language expert Susan Constantine.

Constantine, who has observed the Obamas for years, expressed concern about the couple’s dynamic based on their body language. She noted that there was a visible distance between the two, with Secret Service agents positioned between them, creating a physical separation.

While Michelle appeared joyful and empowered, walking with confidence, Barack seemed distraught and distant, almost resembling a Secret Service agent rather than her husband. Despite some subtle clues of their long-term relationship, such as their synchronized gait, the overall body language suggested underlying tension.

Constantine suggested that there may be some emotional turmoil between the couple, with Barack appearing as a shadow in Michelle’s path. She speculated that there could be serious issues affecting their relationship, leading to the current speculation about their marriage.

The Obamas have been married for 32 years, but recent public events have seen Michelle absent, including former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. While other executive branch couples attended the event, Michelle’s absence raised eyebrows, especially as Barack engaged in light-hearted banter with political foes like Donald Trump.
