Oilers: Evander Kane undergoes successful knee surgery

Edmonton Oilers Forward Evander Kane Provides Update on Potential Return

Edmonton Oilers power forward Evander Kane is determined to make his comeback to the NHL this season, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. The 33-year-old, who has been sidelined for the entirety of the 2024-25 season, underwent knee surgery recently and shared an update on his progress.

Kane expressed his focus on reaching full recovery, stating, “My focus has been getting back to 100 per cent. That’s why I got the procedure done yesterday, so I could feel 100 per cent when I get back and there are no issues moving forward. Whenever I’m 100 per cent, I will make myself available to play hockey.”

The veteran forward has faced multiple surgeries in the past year, including abdominal surgery in the fall to address various issues. Despite the setback, Kane remains optimistic about his return, aiming to expedite the recovery process as much as possible.

Kane revealed that the latest knee procedure was a result of an issue that arose after his abdominal surgery. While the recovery timeline for the knee surgery is estimated at four to eight weeks, Kane believes it will only slightly impact his abdominal rehab schedule.

Last season, Kane battled through severe abdominal pain, ultimately leading to his absence during the Stanley Cup final. Witnessing his team’s defeat from the sidelines motivated him to prioritize his health and address lingering injuries to ensure a full return to form.

Despite the challenges faced during his recovery, Kane emphasized the importance of being patient and allowing his body to heal properly. Recognizing the significance of being in peak physical condition, he is committed to regaining his strength before returning to the ice.

With a track record of 326 goals in 930 career games, Kane’s presence on the ice is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike. Known for his aggressive playing style, he is determined to overcome his injuries and showcase his skills once again.

As Kane continues his recovery journey, he remains focused on achieving full fitness and readiness for his NHL comeback. While he has yet to resume skating, he is optimistic about his progress and looks forward to making a significant impact upon his return.
