Okanagan couple fields hundreds of calls from grillers after BBQ company’s hotline miss-steak

Jim Klassen and Mirjana Komljenovic, residents of Summerland, found themselves unexpectedly fielding customer service calls for Napoleon Grills, a popular Canadian barbecue manufacturer.

The couple’s phone started ringing off the hook with inquiries about Napoleon grills shortly after Klassen had contacted the company about upgrading a part on his own grill. Despite having no official affiliation with Napoleon, Klassen and Komljenovic went above and beyond to assist every caller, even when things got a little heated.

Although Napoleon tried to remove Klassen’s number from their website and search engines, the incorrect contact information persisted. Callers looking for customer service would inadvertently reach Klassen, who patiently helped them with their grilling questions, sometimes receiving up to 20 calls a day.

When they needed assistance themselves, they turned to White’s BBQ and Fireplace Centre in Kelowna, a local dealer of Napoleon Grills, for support.

After hundreds of calls, Napoleon finally removed Klassen’s number from their site and ceased its automatic suggestion in search results. To show appreciation for their dedication, Napoleon named the couple Honorary Customer Service Ambassadors and presented them with a new top-of-the-line grill.

In celebration, Klassen and Komljenovic plan to host a barbecue for the Napoleon staff, using their new grill to break it in.
