Olympic champion Sha’Carri Richardson investing in team-based track and field league

Athlos Announces Team-Based Track and Field League Featuring Olympic Gold Medallists as Founding Adviser-Owners

Building on the success of its inaugural event in 2024, Athlos is set to launch a team-based track and field league in 2026, with renowned Olympic gold medallists Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, and Tara Davis-Woodhall on board as founding adviser-owners.

Founded by Reddit creator Alexis Ohanian, Athlos made a splash with its women’s track event last September in New York, attracting a staggering 3 million viewers. The event featured 35 female athletes, including Gabby Thomas and Faith Kipyegon, who set a world record in the 1500m, competing for the largest prize purse in a women-only track and field event.

Sha’Carri Richardson expressed her excitement about joining Athlos as an adviser-owner, stating, “I take pride in doing what is right for people. Joining ATHLOS as an advisor-owner gives me the opportunity to create something that genuinely empowers people both on and off the track.”

The upcoming league, scheduled to kick off after the World Athletics season, is designed by athletes for athletes. Teams will compete in multiple meets held in major cities, culminating in a championship event to determine the season’s overall winner.

Alexis Ohanian emphasized the importance of compensating athletes like Gabby, Sha’Carri, and Tara, who have elevated the sport and become its standard-bearers. “We were focused on bringing them into the league as founding owners to ensure we’re building a League that our athletes will love,” he stated in a press release.

Prior to the league’s debut, Athlos will host another event at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island on Oct. 10. Athletes such as Gabby Thomas and Tara Davis-Woodhall, along with Olympians Masai Russell, Marileidy Paulino, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, and Brittany Brown, are set to compete in six track events and one field event.
