One Grand Deal for Self-Deportation: Fox News Politics Newsletter for May 5, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security has announced a new initiative to encourage illegal aliens to self-deport from the United States. In a move aimed at saving taxpayers money, DHS will cover the cost of commercial flights and provide a $1,000 stipend to individuals who choose to remove themselves from the country.
According to DHS, it currently costs over $17,000 on average to arrest, detain, and deport someone. By offering assistance for self-deportation, the department estimates that the process will only cost around $4,500 per individual. The stipend will only be paid once it is confirmed that the individual has left the country.
To access this assistance, aliens can use the CBP Home self-deportation app. DHS expects that the number of self-removals will increase significantly with the introduction of this program, which has already seen thousands of individuals opting to leave the country.
