Ontario’s Sam Mooibroek Dominates in Montana’s Brier Debut

Sam Mooibroek from Ontario had a spectacular debut at the Montana’s Brier on Saturday, as he led his team to an impressive 11-4 victory over Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard in Kelowna, B.C.

The 25-year-old curler from Kitchener, Ont., showcased his skill with a remarkable angle-raise in the second end, scoring five points and setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Mooibroek continued to impress in the fourth end, making a draw for three points to extend Ontario’s lead even further. The game ended after just eight ends when the teams shook hands, with Ontario emerging as the clear victors.

Other notable results from Pool B included Nova Scotia’s Owen Purcell defeating Saskatchewan’s Rylan Kleiter 7-2, Alberta’s Brad Jacobs securing a 10-3 victory over Yukon’s Thomas Scoffin, and Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen holding off Prince Edward Island’s Tyler Smith with a 6-4 win.

The action doesn’t stop there, as another draw is scheduled for the evening at Prospera Place, promising more exciting matchups and fierce competition.

Round-robin play will continue through Thursday, leading up to the much-anticipated final on March 9, where one team will emerge victorious as the champion of the Montana’s Brier.
