Shelter-in-Place Order Lifted in Ohsweken, Ont. After Armed Suspect Incident

Provincial police are no longer asking people in Ohsweken, Ont., to shelter in place Saturday morning after they reported an armed suspect was in the area early Saturday morning.

The shelter-in-place order was in response to a disturbance in the area of Onondaga Road and Sixth Line in the Six Nations community, which is located about 25 kilometres southeast of Brantford, Ont., the Ontario Provincial Police said in a post on social media platform X just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Police said they were responding to an incident involving an armed suspect in a news release issued Saturday morning.

Community Response

Area residents were asked to lock their doors and windows and watch for police updates on the situation, the OPP said.

Around 11 a.m., police posted on X to say the shelter-in-place had been lifted.

“Area residents may resume their planned activities, while Six Nations Police Service continues with the investigation,” the OPP said. “We appreciated your understanding and cooperation during this situation.”
