Ottawa Charge rally to slip past Toronto Sceptres 3-2

The Ottawa Charge thrilled their home fans with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Toronto Sceptres in a Professional Women’s Hockey League match on Tuesday night. Ottawa, with a record of 1-0-1-0, started strong but faltered in the second period, allowing Toronto (1-0-0-1) to take the lead.

The Charge showed resilience in the third period, scoring two goals in quick succession to take the lead. Toronto fought hard for an equalizer, but Ottawa’s goaltender, Emerance Maschmeyer, stood tall with 20 saves in the dying minutes of the game.

The scoring opened early in the first period when Ottawa’s Mannon McMahon found the back of the net. Toronto responded with a power-play goal from Sarah Nurse, tipping in a shot from Hannah Miller. The Sceptres then took the lead late in the second period when Izzy Daniel capitalized on a loose puck in front of the net.

However, Ottawa rallied in the third period, tying the game on a power-play goal by Jincy Roese. The Charge then took the lead when Katerina Mrazova set up Tereza Vanisova for a redirect goal over Toronto’s goaltender, Kristen Campbell, who made 28 saves.

In terms of takeaways, Ottawa focused on building size and grit in the off-season but struggled to defend their net against physical play. Toronto, on the other hand, had difficulty containing Ottawa after the game-tying goal in the third period.
