Paul Simon announces surprise tour, with 3 shows each in Vancouver, Toronto

Paul Simon fans in Toronto and Vancouver have something to celebrate as the legendary singer-songwriter recently announced his return to touring. The Quiet Celebration tour will kick off on April 4 in New Orleans and make its way to Toronto’s Massey Hall on May 27, 28, and 30. Vancouver fans can catch Simon at the Orpheum on July 25, 26, and 28 before he wraps up the tour in Seattle.

At 83 years old, Simon last toured in 2018, playing arena venues in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. Following that tour, he experienced hearing issues in his left ear during the recording sessions for his 2023 album, Seven Psalms. In an interview with CBC’s Q host Tom Power, Simon expressed uncertainty about his ability to perform live due to his hearing challenges.

However, after working with experts at Stanford University’s hearing loss clinic, Simon found a way to make performing live possible. His upcoming tour will feature a stage setup that accommodates his hearing loss, allowing him to share his music with fans once again.

Seven Psalms, Simon’s latest album, was inspired by a dream and consists of a 33-minute acoustic suite divided into seven movements exploring themes of God, faith, and meaning. This album showcases Simon’s continued creativity and musical prowess, adding to his impressive discography that has earned him numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame.

In addition to his music, Simon recently appeared on the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, performing a duet of “Homeward Bound” with pop star Sabrina Carpenter. Simon’s longstanding relationship with SNL producer Lorne Michaels has led to multiple appearances on the show over the years, including memorable performances with George Harrison.
