Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron leaving band after 27 years

Pearl Jam’s Drummer Matt Cameron Steps Down After Nearly Three Decades
After nearly three decades, Pearl Jam’s drummer Matt Cameron has announced that he is stepping down from the band. In a heartfelt message posted on Pearl Jam’s social media pages, Cameron expressed his gratitude to his bandmates Jeff Ament, Ed Vedder, Mike McCready, and Stone Gossard for inviting him to join the band in 1998. He described his time with the band as an “opportunity of a lifetime” filled with friendships, artistry, challenges, and laughter.
Cameron, who was also a member of the rock band Soundgarden, joined Pearl Jam in 1998, becoming the fifth drummer for the band. He brought much-needed stability to the group, which had seen several lineup changes over the years. Cameron became Pearl Jam’s sole studio drummer starting from the album “Binaural” in 2000. His long tenure with the band made him a key figure in their history.
In his time with Pearl Jam, Cameron played on numerous albums and toured extensively with the band. His drumming style became synonymous with the band’s sound, and he was praised for his musical prowess and contributions to their live performances.
The announcement of Cameron’s departure comes after the band recently completed a tour in support of their 12th studio album, “Dark Matter.” Cameron will also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Soundgarden later this year.
In their own statement, the members of Pearl Jam described Cameron as a “powerhouse of a musician and drummer” who had been instrumental in shaping the band’s sound over the past 27 years. They expressed their gratitude for his contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors.
As of now, there has been no mention of a replacement for Cameron in Pearl Jam. The band’s fans are left wondering who will fill the void left by his departure and eagerly await news of what the future holds for the legendary rock group.
