Peterman, Gallant remain perfect, reach Page 1-2 playoff at Canadian mixed doubles curling trials

Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant are dominating the Canadian mixed doubles curling trials in Liverpool, N.S. The undefeated duo secured a spot in the Page 1 versus 2 game after defeating Rachel Homan and Brendan Bottcher with a score of 8-4 in Thursday’s opening playoff draw.

Their next challenge will be against Lisa Weagle and John Epping in the 1 vs. 2 game on Friday. The victor of this match will advance directly to Saturday’s final showdown. Peterman and Gallant previously faced off against Weagle and Epping in the round-robin play, where they secured a 6-3 victory with a fifth-end steal of two.

“We had a great game with them in the round robin and we expect them to play great in this game,” said Peterman. “We just need to keep doing our thing.”

Epping and Weagle, on the other hand, secured their spot in the 1 vs. 2 game after a convincing 10-5 win over Brittany Tran and Ryan Kleiter.

Epping acknowledged the challenge of facing Peterman and Gallant, stating, “They’re playing fantastic, so we’re going to have to be on our game. But if we play like we did tonight, I think we have a good chance.”

Tran and Kleiter will square off against Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing, while Homan and Bottcher will take on the father-daughter team of Jim and Jaelyn Cotter in upcoming matches. The winners will progress to the Page 3 vs. 4 playoff, while the losers will be eliminated from the competition.

The trials winner will have the opportunity to represent Canada in the 2026 Olympic Games, provided they achieve a high enough finish at the 2025 world championship to secure their country’s qualification for Italy.

The Olympic field will consist of the top eight ranked countries in the world, with the possibility of the top seven plus host Italy if the Italians do not fall within the top eight. Currently, Canada holds the fifth rank in the world standings.
