Pictou Landing First Nation hires security following home invasions

PICTOU LANDING, N.S. — Pictou Landing First Nation has encountered several non-community members entering or trying to enter homes in the community uninvited.

According to Heather Head, communications director for the Pictou Landing Band office, people have been roaming the community and trying to enter homes. As a result, Chief Tamara Young and the councillors felt it was best to hire security for the community.

Three community members work every night patrolling the community, Head said in an emailed statement.

“There has been a decrease in the entries into homes, but there are still individuals roaming the community and in the lower road of Pictou Landing,” Head added.

Not much else is known about the incidents at this time.

The band office encourages community members to report anything suspicious by calling 911 or texting security at (902)301-2919. Residents are also encouraged to lock their vehicles, sheds and homes for safety reasons.
