Pilot killed after small plane crashes into California neighborhood

A tragic incident occurred in a California neighborhood on Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed, resulting in the death of the pilot and severe damage to two homes. The Ventura County Fire Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a small, single-engine fixed-wing aircraft crashed into two homes on the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch area of Simi Valley around 2 p.m. local time.

The Vans RV-10 aircraft had departed from William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and was en route to Camarillo Airport when the crash occurred. The pilot, who was the only person on board, tragically passed away at the scene. As of now, the identity of the pilot has not been disclosed.

Residents were inside both homes at the time of the crash but were fortunately evacuated with no reported injuries. The two-story, single-family homes caught fire and sustained structural damage as a result of the impact.

Around 40 firefighters were on the scene, working in conjunction with the Simi Valley Police Department. As of 4:30 p.m. local time, the fire had been contained, and crews were focusing on overhaul and salvage operations.

An investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived on the scene at 6:30 p.m. local time. The wreckage will be carefully documented and then transported to a secure facility for further analysis. Both the NTSB and FAA will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

This devastating event serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with aviation. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the pilot who lost their life in this tragic accident.
