US Election 2024

Poll shows most and least popular parts of Trump’s agenda on Inauguration Day

A recent poll released on Inauguration Day sheds light on the public’s perception of President-elect Trump’s proposed agenda. Conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, the survey provides insights into various aspects of Trump’s agenda, including mass deportations, tariffs, potential pardons for Jan. 6 rioters, and increased drilling of U.S. oil and gas.

The poll, which surveyed 1,147 adults from Jan. 9 through 13, highlighted the mixed views among U.S. adults on Trump’s proposed policies. While some aspects of his agenda garnered strong support, others faced significant opposition.

One of Trump’s key campaign promises was to launch the largest deportation program in U.S. history. The poll revealed that a majority of Americans support targeted deportations of immigrants convicted of violent crimes, regardless of their legal status in the country. However, there was less support for deporting immigrants who are in the country illegally and have not been convicted of a crime.

Trump’s proposal to impose sweeping tariffs on foreign goods imported into the United States also received mixed reactions. While some Americans expressed support for tariffs as a means to protect domestic industries, others opposed the idea due to concerns about potential inflation.

Another controversial aspect of Trump’s agenda is the potential pardons for individuals involved in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. The poll found that a significant portion of Americans oppose pardoning most participants in the riot, with only a minority in favor of such a move.

When it comes to increasing oil drilling on federal lands, opinions were divided among U.S. adults. While some supported Trump’s plan to boost domestic energy production, others expressed opposition to further drilling on federal lands.

In addition to these issues, the poll also touched on Trump’s stance on the Paris climate agreement, Title IX, the national debt ceiling, and tax cuts. Overall, the survey highlighted the complexities of public opinion on Trump’s proposed policies and suggested that opinions could shift in the future.

As the 47th president prepares to take office, it remains to be seen how these differing views will influence the implementation of his agenda. With a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points, the poll provides a snapshot of current public sentiment on key policy issues.
