Possible measles exposure at Pearson airport and Mississauga hospital, health officials warn

Peel Region Health Officials Warn of Measles Exposure in Mississauga
Health officials in Peel Region are cautioning the public about potential exposure to a measles case at Pearson Airport, a hospital, and a walk-in clinic in Mississauga last week. The region confirmed a case of measles on Tuesday, with the infected individual having recently traveled internationally.
According to the statement released by the region, the public may have been exposed to the measles virus at the following locations:
- Pearson Airport
- A hospital in Mississauga
- A walk-in clinic in Mississauga
More than 100 cases of measles have been reported in Ontario this year, with 18 children requiring hospitalization. It is important to note that none of the hospitalized children were vaccinated against measles.
Public health officials are strongly recommending that individuals get vaccinated against measles, a highly contagious disease that was declared eliminated in Canada in 1998.
Peel officials advise anyone who believes they may have been exposed to measles to check their vaccination status, contact their healthcare provider, and refrain from going to work or school. Symptoms of measles typically appear one to three weeks after exposure and may include a red rash, red and watery eyes, and a high fever.
