Possible measles exposure at Pearson airport on Dec. 8, Toronto Public Health warns

Toronto Public Health Warns of Possible Measles Exposure on Flight from Dubai

Toronto Public Health (TPH) has issued a warning regarding possible measles exposure on Dec. 8 on a flight from Dubai and at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

According to a news release issued on Friday, TPH is currently investigating a case of measles involving an individual with recent international travel history.

Passengers on Emirates Airlines flight EK21 from Dubai to Toronto may have been exposed to measles. Additionally, individuals passing through terminal one between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. are also at risk of exposure.

If you believe you may have been in contact with measles at the mentioned locations, it is recommended to review your vaccination records. Those who have not received two doses of the measles vaccine or have not had measles previously are susceptible to infection.

TPH advises individuals to monitor for symptoms until Dec. 29. Common symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes, a characteristic red rash that starts on the face and spreads, as well as small blue-white spots in the mouth and throat.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours, TPH stated. Infection can occur through breathing contaminated air or touching surfaces that have been exposed to the virus and then touching the face.
