Power restored in Glace Bay after separate outages

Power Outages in Glace Bay, N.S. Leave Residents Disgruntled

Over the weekend, approximately 5,000 residents of Glace Bay, N.S., and surrounding areas were left in the dark due to two power outages caused by an issue with a substation transformer, as reported by Nova Scotia Power.

The outages led to the Cape Breton Regional Municipality opening a comfort centre at the Miners Forum to provide relief to affected individuals while Nova Scotia Power crews worked diligently to install a new mobile transformer. Thankfully, power was fully restored by 11 a.m. on Saturday.

One Glace Bay resident, Jaginder Singh, shared his experience of having to seek refuge at a restaurant in Sydney to escape the freezing temperatures in his home during the second outage. Singh expressed frustration at the frequency of outages in the area, placing blame on Nova Scotia Power.

\”This is a power monopoly by a single company,\” Singh voiced to CBC. \”It always makes a profit but the end result is dismal because it’s too frequent, these outages. It causes a lot of inconvenience.\”

In response to the disruptions, Nova Scotia Power issued an apology to impacted customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the outages.

\”Our crews worked tirelessly through the night to resolve the issue with the substation transformer,\” stated a representative. \”A mobile transformer unit was deployed to restore power to customers while repairs were underway. We are grateful for our customers’ patience as we worked to reconnect everyone as swiftly and safely as possible.\”
