Under the Biden administration, civil rights enforcement resources were focused on resolving cases related to pronoun usage and alleged book banning. Unfortunately, this meant that hundreds of civil rights cases involving antisemitism were left unresolved, as confirmed by a senior Education Department official speaking to Fox News Digital.
Nearly 200 antisemitism complaints filed with the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) were left in limbo under the Biden administration. More than 150 of these complaints were filed following the 2023 terror attack by Hamas, which led to an increase in anti-Israel sentiment in the United States, particularly on college campuses.
The Trump administration has taken steps to address these unresolved cases, dismissing complaints related to alleged book bans and reversing the decision to include “gender identity” within the scope of Title IX. The Trump administration has also halted racially discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in educational institutions.
Additionally, the Trump administration has taken action to combat antisemitism and protect Jewish students on college campuses. In contrast, under Biden, a complaint against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas was left unresolved, sparking debate over transgender athletes in women’s sports.
The Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle the Department of Education have faced criticism, particularly regarding civil rights enforcement for students with disabilities. However, a senior OCR attorney indicated that disability-related resolutions have been consistent with the pace of the previous administration.
Since Trump took office, over 200 disability-related complaints have been opened, with 100 cases resolved by the Education Department. The administration has also issued warnings to educational institutions to protect Jewish students under Title VI.
Overall, the Trump administration has prioritized resolving civil rights cases related to antisemitism, book bans, and gender identity issues. By enforcing the law as written, the administration aims to ensure fair treatment and protection for all students in educational settings.
