President Donald Trump predicts massive tax increases if his budget bill fails
President Donald Trump recently delivered a speech in Michigan to mark his first 100 days in office. During his speech, he strongly criticized Democrats and Republican “grandstanders” who are opposing his budget reconciliation bill. Trump warned that if they succeed in blocking his bill, Americans will face the “highest tax increase in history.”
Trump emphasized that his bill has “100 percent, just about Republican support,” but he acknowledged the need for a few Democratic supporters to ensure its passage. He expressed frustration with Republican dissenters, urging the crowd to remember them and vote them out of office.
The President cautioned that if the bill fails, the United States will experience a significant tax increase rather than the tax cut he has promised. He went on to highlight the potential consequences, stating that if Democrats prevail, there will be a 58% tax increase, which he deemed unacceptable.
During his speech, Trump expressed disbelief at the current political climate, noting that politicians are campaigning on platforms of raising taxes rather than reducing them. He criticized this shift in rhetoric, stating, “I’ve never seen all the years that they campaign: ‘We will raise your taxes.’ I said, ‘This country has gone crazy.'”
Despite expected opposition from Democrats, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that House and Senate GOP leaders are united in passing the budget bill. Republicans are working to incorporate Trump’s priorities on energy, defense, border security, and taxes into the bill, as well as addressing the debt ceiling as requested by the President.
In a recent report by Fox News Digital, House Republicans are allocating $68.8 billion for Trump’s border wall and increasing the number of agents in the field as part of discussions on the spending bill. This allocation aims to advance the President’s agenda and enhance border security.
